The Esslinger "Star" adjustable cam gear is light weight and allows cam timing to be advanced or retarded +/- 10 degrees!
When is this product necessary: Anytime an aftermarket cam is fitted, or if the block and/or head has been milled (resurfaced).
Hints: Most cast iron Ford SOHC tend to like 3-4deg. of cam advance for best all around performance. Advancing your cam typically moves the power-band down in the RPM range slightly helping your car or truck to accelerate away from a stop or off the corner better. Retarding the cam will typically help move peak horsepower up in RPM allowing the engine to carry the power farther before dropping off.
