**Stage 2 "Guage Legal" carb in pictures~**
For years we have supplied reworked Holley carbs with our engines that are required by rules to have a 2 barrel carb. We've run carbs from big name carb builders all over the country and have yet to see one out perform what we offer. All of our carbs start out as brand new Holley parts that are then modified to create what we feel are the best carbs for each specific ruleset. We offer 2 versions of 0-4412 (commonly called a "500", as well as 2 versions of 0-7448 (commonly called a "350").
Below are some features for each carb that should help you choose which is best for your application:
Stage 2: "Guage legal" carb utilizes a blueprinted mainbody and throttleplate. The metering block is completely blueprinted and modified to tailor the fuel curve to 4-cylinder engines up to 2.7L that run in the 4000-8000rpm range. The fuel curve is based upon using a non-oxygenated fuel similar to Sunoco 110, VP 110, or Renegade 110. Due to the increased signal strength enabled by the emulsion circuit modifications, and utilizing our custom powervalve restrictors we typically see main jet sizes around the 71 to 72 sizes commonly used on most good running 2336-2542cc Ford SOHC circletrack engines with these carbs. This means that the same amount of fuel is pulled through a smaller orifice which results in better fuel atomization than any re-jetted out of the box carb could ever hope for! If your rules require a Holley "500" that can pass guage tests from the top AND bottom, then this is the best option for you! Typically works well with small to medium size plenums or shorter carb spacers. Choke tower is maintained but the choke plate and shaft are removed. We have dialed in the accelerator pump cam and squirters, added a vent baffle, and sealed up the choke linkage hole as well. Another huge benefit with all of our carbs is the use of a powervalve to increase part throttle drivability when many other carb tuners go with a powervalve block off which ends up making the part throttle air-fuel mixture way too rich!
Stage 3: "Outlaw" carb features oversize venturii AND oversize throttles that flow over 15% more cfm that a guage legal carb! We use less restrictive boosters that are sized to work with the oversize venturii and provide outstanding signal strength to the emulsion circuit. The metering block gets reworked to get the fuel curve right for a built 4-cylinder (2.6L-3.3L, and up to 9,500rpm). The fuel curve is based upon using a non-oxygenated fuel similar to Sunoco 110, VP 110, or Renegade 110. With the emulsion circuit modifications, and utilizing our custom powervalve restrictor we typically see main jet sizes around the 68 to 70 sizes when used on really good running 2336-2542cc Ford SOHC circletrack engines with these carbs. Because it poses no restriction to horsepower, the standard choke tower is maintained but the choke plate and shaft are removed. Because of the larger venturii and throttleplate along with the different boosters we use, the Stage 3 carbs definitely won't pass a no-go guage test.
Oxygenated, or Non-oxygenated Fuel Options: Both stages of carb can be set-up to run on either Oxygenated fuel or Non-oxygenated fuel. When running oxygenated fuels, there is more to getting the air-fuel right than just increasing the main jet size. We tailor the complete metering block for the specific type of fuel (Oxygenated or Non-oxygenated).
